The Return to Eden

My ultimate hope is that these paintings will create in each person who encounters them a unique recognition that eternity has been placed in each of our hearts.

The collection will be on exhibit during 2026 at Castello di Gabbiano in Chianti, Tuscany.

The Vision Statement

This collection is the story of redemption: the redemption of beauty, of goodness, health, nature, our connection to God, each other, and ultimately, of hope.

My goal in creating this collection was to take a subject that has often been depicted as signpost of humanity’s tragic fall, and reframe it as our ultimate future. I want these paintings to remind us that there is something more waiting for us, something that we can often sense, like a whisper in our ear, but can never seem to fully grasp. I want to highlight the tension between the joy that I believe ultimately we were made for, and sorrow of being unable to reach it in this life.

We sense this glimpse of eternity in a glimmer of sunlight in the early morning; the brush of a baby’s hand on our cheek; the glory of a cathedral; the chirp of birds in the snow, the shadow shapes of the leaves on a warm evening.

The artistic inspiration for this collection is a drawn from a combination of elements, including: the ancient fresco ‘The Garden of Livia’; modern abstract works by Makoto Fujimura; Tuscan summers; as well as the folk song Lemeny sung by Sam Lee.

Visually this collection seeks to immerse the viewer into another realm, one that feels highly realistic, yet somehow otherworldly - tangible yet out of reach - highlighting the tension between what we know in our hearts could be, and yet is not fully realized.

Painted micro-thin layers of oil over a deep acrylic base, this approach gives each painting an intense visual depth. Intentionally, each painting maintains low contrast, to avoid being visually jolting, and provide a serene, calm, yet mysterious tension. The scale and subject of each piece is also intentional, each being just slightly smaller or larger than the subject would be in real life, adding to the otherworldy nature.

While enjoyed most honestly as a full collection, each piece is created to be a standalone painting, each ready to welcome you back to the place where you truly belong.

Enjoy the journey
